Opera Design Mission Completed
Tuesday, November 8, 2011 at 09:01AM Well it was a lot of work but I've finally finished working on the set and costume design for the Virtuosi Chamber Orchestra & CT Lyric Opera production of "The Tales of Hoffmann" which opened on Friday at Trinity-on-Main.

The opera has 5 acts beginning in a tavern where a poet drinks and tells the surrounding crowd about his three lost loves: he fell in love with a robot, a courtesan, and a young girl who sings herself to death.
I set the opera in the swinging 20's- with flapper dresses, gangster suits, long pearls and feathers. The color scheme was sepia tones.
In the background we had projections on the screen as if it were a silent movie- photo stills as background scenery interspersed with film cards explaining the dialogue- old fashioned film footage filled the screen during the scene changes.

<-- An example of one of the word cards & portrait from the Antonia scene - I'm proud of my photoshop job

Still time to see the show- November 13th in New London, CT at the Gare Arts Center and November 19th at the Palace Theater in Waterbury, CT!!
