This is not an octopus' garden in the shade (though it resembles one) but is instead some rather aggressive vines and leaves elbowing their way into the picture.

For some reason lately I have been far more interested in the garden invaders and not the invited guests. This painting features a wild climbing grapevine known as summer grape and the weed known as queen anne's lace or wild carrot. And just like its subject matter it is sprawling, measuring 48" high by 120" wide.

This is an autobiographical painting of my front yard - complete with the cherry tree we planted, the rock river I hand dug, the melons that miraculously grew when no one planted them, the rabbits living in the garden and the Gidget barking in the window.
