Warsaw & Krakow, Poland

Warsaw & Krakow, Poland

Krakow was beautiful! It was sort of like being transported back in time to a medieval city where the exchange rate was totally in my favor and a person could have a $1.50 cappuccino sitting at a picturesque outdoor cafe with NO additional "view" charge! Fair to say I was charmed by Krakow. Not to mention people were pleased to talk to us when they realized we were American, but when they realized we were Polish American they were downright enthused.

Krakow poland

The start of our journey through Poland and the Czech Republic began in Warsaw, which is where (going back a few generations) my family is from. A wonderful start to the trip - and if your looking for a hotel I highly recommend this place

Prague, Czech Republic

Prague, Czech Republic

Czech out my Prague drawings! (sorry had to do it)

Prague was a really pretty city, and though we were there in late September it felt like summer.  Crazy sites abound, including the scale model of the eiffel tower, pickable apples, a vineyard in the park, castles, spires & more.

The hills are alive.... it's pretty hard to avoid the Sound of Music so we rolled with it.  We went bike riding through the hills and along the river, we hiked up to the fortress, got squirted with water by the statues out at the Hellbrunn Palace. What a wonderful place!

Munich, Germany

Munich, Germany

I am not really a beer drinker. I say that to explain the large quantities I must have had under the chestnut trees in Munich's beer gardens when I discovered my go to German drink, a Radler (half lemonade/lemon soda half beer). But it does seem the thing to do when in town.

Madrid Airport Barajas

Madrid Airport Barajas

We got stranded in Madrid on our way home from Naples, heavy fog in Spain stranded a lot of travelers. We stepped off the plane to see a line with at least 120 people in it and only two attendants helping people with their flight delays... we waited in line for over 5 hours before we were helped and put on an early morning plane (with at least free accommodations downtown which gave us the opportunity to have a truly excellent Spanish meal) When we arrived at the airport in the morning we learned that our flight had been cancelled and we were now on an afternoon flight (thanks for that Iberia, it would have been nice to see some of Madrid that morning) anyways... the point is we spent A LOT of time in the Madrid Airport Barajas and its a really interesting design, here are some of my drawings.

Naples, Italy

Naples, Italy

Why does everyone try to scare you about Naples? The drivers are like maniacs, the garbage is a problem, you WILL get pickpocketed or scammed in some way, blah, blah, blah.

I really like Naples. Parts of it were really beautiful. The people were super nice, and honestly the food was more delicious and cheaper than the other places I visited in southern Italy.

While in the greater Naples area I also visited Pompeii and wow. Its hard not to be impressed by all the Romans had accomplished, the technology was unbelievable.

Amalfi, Italy

Amalfi, Italy

Really this is describing the whole Amalfi Coast drive I took between Naples and Salerno - I made base camp in Sorrento and stops in Positano and Amalfi.

What a beautiful place!! And one of the most exciting/scary drives of all times (my apologies to everyone behind me)

Pasteum, Italy

Home to awesome Greek temples and great buffalo mozzella- from here head south to Anna's pizzeria in Agropoli for the best pizza I had in Italy.
